Laugh About It

Yesterday could have gone much worse than it had. Not that it was great, because it wasn’t in his eyes.

He’d expected his sister and mother to be completely helpless-sounding bitches. It was an embarrassment to him, but at least Rose made him laugh about it.

They’d gotten back to his place and she wasted no time peeling his clothes off and attacking him the minute they stepped foot in the house. It was almost as if she knew he needed the comfort.

He’d heard her asking his mother and sister why they didn’t consider what would make a man feel special. It never occurred to him before he should feel that way.

Maybe he had too much negativity drilled into his brain. Or maybe he didn’t live the life that the Bloom sisters did and they seemed to take nothing for granted.

It was on the tip of his tongue to ask if she felt that way because her father left. That maybe their mother didn’t pay much attention to Logan. But he didn’t. He stopped himself.

Rose wouldn’t know the answer to that and it wouldn’t change the course of history.

What he didn’t want though was her doing things out of fear. He wanted them out of love.

But he knew damn well he couldn’t say that to Rose. She wouldn’t want to hear it.

Just like she changed the subject when he joked about her being with him a year from now when he had to visit his mother again.

If they weren’t in his car, he’d bet she would have left the room like she was famous for doing. Instead, she changed the subject and he let her.

She’d stayed last night, but left early this morning, saying she had a ton of work to do. If he wanted to spend the whole weekend with her, he had to tell himself to get over it.

Rose had worked yesterday morning before they left for Greenwich. Just like she was complaining about having to go dress shopping with Poppy on Tuesday when she was busy. She’d probably work late that night too and he was going to give her some space. He wanted to see if she would reach out to spend time with him rather than it seeming like he always had to make that first step.

He was sitting on the deck when he saw the sailboat coming into his dock. He knew it was his father and went out to meet him and bring the boat in.

“Nice day for a sail,” he said to his father.

“It is. I thought maybe you’d want to join me.”

He hadn’t been on the water in a long time. Not on a boat. He’d thought about getting a jet ski and then said that wasn’t him either.

“Sure,” he said. “Give me a minute to lock the house.”

He grabbed his phone, went to his app and locked his house, set his alarms, then went back to the dock and climbed on the boat with his father.

He helped his father get the boat out on the open water.
